Today is Wednesday, August 23, 2023 and it was my second to last day at PMR. I can’t believe my days there are coming to an end. Honestly it’s a bittersweet feeling…I’m happy to have come this far because of my work there but I’m scared of what I have to do on my own moving forward. The unknow is always scary…But hopefully I got this!
I arrived at PMR at 9:30 am, just a little before the swimming session would start. This would be my last day swimming in the hydro pool so I really wanted to make sure I got the most out of it. I got into the pool with some other patients who were all in one group class together. My therapist told me she’d be a little late so I got started on all my exercises on my own. This was actually good prep work for me…This is what it’s going to be like for me real soon. I was in the pool, on my own, for a 20 minutes working on all the moves we’ve been practicing before my therapist showed up. She was proud that I completed everything by myself. As soon as she arrived I got on the pool treadmill for 10 minutes and reached a speed of 5.0! I was running in the water! It was such a thrill. I loved it. The session was over but right before raising the pool floor for us to get out, I asked if I could try swimming the length of the pool and back. My therapist told me to swim freestyle and not breaststroke…I was skeptical if I could do it, but I actually did it! Back and forth, one time, without stopping and my heart rate reached 156 bpm! I was so out of breath but the applause I received from the other ladies in the pool gave me such a boost of confidence. I loved it!
After showering and changing I headed to the nurse’s station to check my vitals. My blood pressure was a little low and I felt a bit tired after swimming so I ate a banana and rested for 10 minutes before heading to my occupational therapy session. We went to the OT gym and I worked on my upper body strength using the wall mounted pully system shown above. We spent a good 30 minutes working on my biceps, triceps, back and should muscles. We tried adding more weights but I couldn’t handle 4 kgs for some of the moves. I was trying to remember all the moves so I could make sure to work on them later when I’m on my own. Overall, I was happy with my workouts today and I’m ready for my last day at PMR tomorrow. باذن الله.
الحمد لله حبّاً، والحمد لله شكراً، والحمد لله يوماً وشهراً، والحمد لله عُمراً، والحمد لله في السرّاء والضراء، والحمد لله على ما قسمه الله لنا.
