Today is Tuesday, August 22, 2023 and it was quite a busy day for me. There were four items on today’s agenda…Let’s begin with the first one, the Family Meeting. I’m not sure if you remember or not but I had posted earlier about a Family Meeting that took place at PMR with my PT, my OT, their supervisor, my husband and myself. That initial meeting was to discuss the rehabilitation program they intended to put me on when I first started at PMR, the results they hoped to achieve, and my expectations. Today’s Family Meeting was more of a wrap-up session as this is my last week at PMR. We discussed how far I’ve come in terms of my rehabilitation, how I must continue to exercise to maintain and improve my muscle strength and what to do incase I get a flare up and need their help again. Instead of my husband though, Yasmine joined me at the meeting and was asked to share her opinion on my progress over the past two months…She was so cute in her response and in thanking them all for helping get to to where I am today.
There was a slight change in today’s schedule and I had my OT session before my PT session. Yasmine and I headed to the OT room right after the Family Meeting and my therapist put us both to work. As you can see from picture above, Yasmine was working just as hard as I was, if not harder. For a little fun and humor, my therapist set up some challenges between us to see who could complete them faster…I won some, Yasmine won some. The best part for me is having my daughter there to support me and encourage me to try my best with all the exercises.
Next was PT…It was a tough session. We started with my usual lower-body exercises with the ankle weights on. First walking forward, backward then sideways. Then we did side leg raises, hip flexion, squats and then stairs! Aaagghh it was really tiring, and just when I thought we were done, my therapist took me to the other room where we worked on some challenging floor exercises. I did sitting to standing a few times, superman in kneeling position then we added reaching to that…It was really intense, but you know what, I did it! Go Lulu! We headed home and I caught up on my rest before my next appointment…
It’s Tuesday so you know what that means…my weekly Zoom therapy session. It’s become part of my routine that I really look forward to. Every week there’s something different to talk about, something new to address or tackle…It feels good to get a lot off my chest that I sometimes feel I don’t want to burden anyone with. I’m thankful for my therapist and for these weekly sessions.
I had some homework from my PT and OT so I went down to the gym in our house and did as much as I could. But now my body needs some rest and recovery…Until tomorrow beautiful people!
